One of the country’s biggest and most celebrated cultural activities; Orange Letlhafula has been set to take place on May 5 at its usual venue being Botswanacraft.
Orange Letlhafula is a popular annual cultural event celebrating Botswana’s diverse culture through music, dance, food, drink, traditional games and this year marks its 16 years of existence and thrilling Batswana’s cultural palate.
This year, the event will be held under the theme: Nnana tsholetsa makgabe re je bophose! A setso ruri.Over the years, the audience have fully embraced the occasion, adding greatly to the atmosphere and excitement of the day by dressing up in their best traditional outfits.
Boga Chilinde-Masebu, public relations and foundation manager at Orange Botswana said in an interview that the event had grown in leaps and bounds over the years to become one of the must attend cultural events on the annual events calendar.
She indicated that Orange Botswana continued to sponsor and support this annual event as it resonated with one of the company’s strategic goals of celebrating and supporting the preservation of local culture for future generations.
“The all-day event is the perfect outing for the whole family as there are various activities for all members of the family to participate in and enjoy,” she said.
There is a lot of activities that would be held on the day as two stages will feature some of the best local artists, an arts & craft exhibition and also fashion designers that would be showing how to fuse traditional print material with modern fashion so that people can get that authentic cultural look.
“Botswana culture is so diverse and beautiful, and that on its own is reason enough to get together as Batswana to celebrate it and each other as well as to expose and teach the younger generations to our culture and traditions.
As Orange Botswana we are proud to be associated with an event of this magnitude that not only feeds into and resonates with some of our strategic goals but plays such a vital role in the preservation and celebration of local culture,” said Chilinde-Masebu.
As is the norm, the dress theme for the day is traditional wear and all are encouraged to come and enjoy the day adorned in their traditional best.
All attendees are asked to dress-up to stand a chance to win best dressed male, female or even couple.
The tickets for this event for the general public are available at P280.00 (adults) and P140.00 (children aged 6-12 years).
All tickets are sold only at Botswanacraft during normal working hours.
Carol Kgafela, public relations officer (PRO) at Orange Botswana said Orange Letlhafula was different to other cultural events because it was an experiential event.
“It is not just about the food or music as stand-alone, but rather about experiencing everything under one umbrella.
We are about taking you back to the good old days of sitting under a tree and enjoying cultural foods, playing Setswana games and listening to traditional music.
Because this is not an exhibition, we encourage full participation from our patrons, such that they leave the event feeling nostalgic of the days and times that were,” she said. ENDS
