Mascom celebrates 20th birthday in style

23 Apr 2018

Mascom celebrated its 20th anniversary in style in Maun on April 21 with a 100 per cent local artists line-up featuring Charma Gal, Han C, Motlha of Mmamotse fame and rapper Bangu.

At the same event, Mascom handed over a cheque worth P20 000 to  Kast Foundation founder, Tshepiso Molapisi, known as Kast in music cycles.

He plans to walk 2 000kms in order to raise funds towards the development of an arts council.

Kast reached his half way mark on Saturday when he arrived in Maun.

Handing over the cheque, Mascom chief communications and public relations officer, Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego said Kast had shown commitment towards his dreams by walking for 1 000kms from Maun to Gaborone in 2017 after his initial Tlatsa Lebala campaign failed.

Lebotse-Sebego also added that Kast had proven that all was possible by his dedication to taking a route less travelled to achieve his dream.

She said the 100 per cent local artist line-up and the donation to Kast was Mascom’s way to reaffirm its commitment to the arts industry in the country.

In his appreciation remarks, Kast said music was his first love and that he had dedicated two years of his life to improving the industry.

Kast said he understood that some people perceived what he was doing as good while others thought he was totally crazy.

“People question why the 2 000km walk now while I achieved the Tlatsa Lebala campaign last year,” he said.

He answered the question by saying there was a dire need for an arts council in the country, noting that the Arts Council Bill had been pending in Parliament.

He said since he started walking from Gaborone on March 22 he had been walking about 50 kms per day.

He said some of the challenges included not bathing on some days.

He said pledges from supporters such as Mascom were motivating him.

The 20th anniversary  celebrations saw sterling performances from Motlha and Han C who performed some of his hit songs such as Seileng, while Charma Gal mesmerised the crowd with her pick of old and recent songs. ENDS
