The Kenyan Ambassador to Botswana Ms Jean Kimani says Botswana’s story of diamonds for development is an inspiration to other countries including Kenya.
Speaking in an interview during a tour of the Jwaneng diamond mine on April 20, she said Botswana was known as a success story of diamond mining. She said their visit to the mine was an important one as they were interested in the processes that Debswana used to successfully mine the mineral to benefit the whole country.
She noted that the role of Botswana diamonds to the economy of the country was well known and this should be motivation to other countries.
She said even though Kenya did not have many minerals and only started mining a few years back, they could learn a lot from Botswana as a role model in Africa.
Jwaneng mine senior ore-processing manager Mr Sedireng Serumola acknowledged the visit by the Kenyan delegation, saying such visits helped strengthen relationships between countries.
He alluded Debswana’s success story of mining diamonds for development to the country’s leadership which has over the years provided a conducive environment for public private partnerships. ENDS
