Otse Pele Brand Society donates books

Otse Pele Brand Society has donated books to Baratani Junior Secondary School in Otse.

The donation is part of the Society’s outreach programme to improve the culture of reading among leaners as well as contribute to improvement academic performance. 

Otse Pele Brand coordinator and founder, Mr Tom Isaacs said the students ought to read and develop positive attitude towards their studies. 

He was hopeful that the donations would go a long way in contributing towards improving the students performance. “Our donation will go a long way in promoting academic excellence,” he stated.

Further, Mr Isaacs commended the school for having improved its performance from 30.4 per cent to 51.1 per cent in the previous year’s Junior Certificate results.

He said Otse Pele intended to interact with the community and contribute to the wellbeing of the communities and improve the quality of life. 

He said for the society to address its aims, there was need for collaboration, cooperation and partnerships with relevant stakeholders, citing the donation to Baratani Junior as one of such collaborations. 

He said their previous engagement with the Otse community included hosting Botswana Scout Association southern region boot camp and donation of books to Otse Primary School. 

Baratani Junior school head, Ms Thaseng Majwabe said the school had managed to improve from 30.9 per cent in 2016 to 51.1 per per cent in 2017.

Although the pass mark is below the region’s target of 60 per cent, she was hopeful that they were moving in the right direction.

She further pleaded with Otse community to show keen interests in their schildren’s studies adding that parents were lagging behind. Ms Majwabe also complained about the dilapidated state of the school facilities, adding that since Baratani Junior Secondary school was opened in 1983, it had never been renovated. ENDS
