Babirwa cultural festival organiser Godfrey Maake says this year’s festival will be held on May 5 at the Bobonong Show Grounds.
Maake who is also the coordinator of Re tlaa re ke dipitse traditional group said this year the festival had been put on the government calender of events adding that this challenged village leaders to be involved in planning for the event.
He therefore advised artistes to use the Babirwa cultural festival as a platform to market themselves.
“My intention as the organiser of the event is to see you Bobirwa artistes benefiting from the cultural festival and that is why we have not invited any artiste from outside the catchment yet,” he said.
He said for the festival to be a success, the responsibility had been vested upon performing artistes as it was their day to shine and show people what the Babirwa culture was all about.
“It is upon you Bobirwa artistes to ensure that the Babirwa cultural festival becomes a success,” he said.
He urged Bobirwa artistes to work together and come with means that could make Babirwa cultural festival grow.
“You must use music as a career that could put bread on the table not as a form of entertainment,” he said.
For his part, one of the artistes Chairman Toteng also known as Katara tsa moya said besides music as a form of entertainment during cultural festival, the organising commitee should try introduce horse racing competition.
Mr Toteng said the horse race competition more especially in Maun and other districts was well known for attracting people.
He said if it could be introduced at the Babirwa cultural festival it could make Bobirwa grow and become well known.
He encouraged Bobirwa artiste to work together in order to grow and up their music career. Ends
