Moshupa-Manyana, Boteti East and Tonota constituencies reserved a significant amount of their Constituency Development Fund for street lighting in the Financial Year 2017/18 with P10 million, P8.25 million and P7.8 million, respectively.

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso said when responding to a question in parliament from Boteti East MP, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe.

Ms Tshireletso said BITRI had already received a total of P18.1 million, adding that “out of the amount, P2 million was received from Southern District Council for Moshupa-Manyana solar street lighting project on August 9, 2017 and P16.1 million from the ministry on November 23, 2017 for all other constituencies.”

Of the expected 475 solar units/heads, she said Moshupa-Manyana had already received a total of 45, whilst the ministry was still awaiting delivery of solar units for other constituencies.

The assistant minister said villages covered within the constituencies which reserved significant amount of funds were all villages and settlements in the Moshupa-Manayana constituency.

These, she said were; (Pitseng 19, Ralekgetho 17, Tshwaane 11, Lotlhakane West 14, Moshupa 319, Polokwe 7, Gookodisa 2, Manyana 66, Mogonye 14, Bikwe 3, Machana Mobile Health Stop 2 and Naledi Mobile Health Stop 1), Letlhakane village in Boteti East (330) and Tonota village in the Tonota constituency (312).

On September 6, 2017, Ms Tshireletso said street light poles for Moshupa-Manyana constituency were procured, adding that for other constituencies whose procurement was being handled centrally, the process was still ongoing and was expected to be completed by end of April 2018.

“For Moshupa-Manyana constituency, Lesedi Boards (PTY) Ltd was awarded to supply the street light poles and installation commenced on November 27, 2017, whilst for the rest of the constituencies, the award process has not been concluded, and the erection of poles will be done by the Sub Districts using casual labourers and small contractors,” she said.

She also noted that the spacing between street light poles was 30 metres, as per the recommendation and specifications of the manufacturers (BITRI) and the project was anticipated to end within the first quarter of 2018/2019 in all the three constituencies.

She said Moshupa-Manyana, Tonota and Boteti East constituencies would receive 475, 312 and 330 solar street lights, respectively.

Mr Lelatisitswe had asked Ms Tshireletso to state the three constituencies that reserved a significant amount of their Constituency Development Fund for street lighting in the Financial Year 2017/18 and the amount each constituency reserved. ENDS
