Council fights diseases

08 Apr 2018

The North West District Council (NWDC) has held a Wellness Day in Maun to raise awareness on good health practices among their staff.

The district council chairperson, Mr Mokaedi Maikano said the day was to encourage exercising as a way of fighting non-communicable diseases.

He advised employees to use available private gyms since government did not have such facilities in place yet.

Tebelopele Testing Centre also participated and screened for diseases while financial institutions empowered employees with financial literacy.

Mr Maikano said their main sponsor did not manage to continue supporting the event due to unforeseen circumstances, saying however they did not despair but continued with the day.

The wellness day, he said, would be held on a quarterly basis to sensitise people to be vigilant and prevent non-communicable diseases.

Activities of the day included tug of war, football and various races, and it attracted NWDC employees from Maun and Okavango. Ends
