08 Apr 2018

Oarabile Ross, known as Julia Ross in the music industry has released her first Jazz-Poetry album titled Re a Nyelela.

The 10 track album features Comrade Letshwenyo and was produced by Mox Motlhaleemang at Home of Arts Production.

She said the album has not yet been launched due to financial constraints.

Ross said the album which was released in 2017, was inspired by Anafiki’s track title ‘if you got talent baby, I say use it'.

Raised in Kanye, Ross said she started poetry at primary school and  since she did not do well at school, she decided to use her talent to earn a living.

She said she believed that God had given each and every person a plan on how to survive in life.

Ross emphasised that she used to recite poems at primary and secondary school both in English and Setswana adding that after completing her studies she started writing and reciting own lines.

“Because I used to recite poems at school, that paved a way for me to join the industry,”she said.

The album consists of tracks such as Re a Nyelela which is about the HIV /AIDS scourge facing the world and encouragement on how to fight it.

Boipuso, is a track dedicated to the three Dikgosi celebrated for their constribution to the country’s independence.

In honor of heroes, Ross composed two poems to pay tribute to Prince Diana which was motivated by Anafiki’s Rest in Peace Diana and Kgosi Seepapitso of Bangwaketse.

Kgosi Seepapitso being the longest poem in the album, was recited by Ross at Kgosi Seepapitso’s funeral. Ends
