Department reduces water flow at Mosu

The Ministry of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism through the Department of Forestry and Range Resources and Forest Conservation Botswana has since 2010 in collaboration with Mosu Village Development Committee undertaken some work towards reducing the flow of water throughout the village, Minister Tshekedi Khama has said.

Answering a question in Parliament, Mr Khama said the project was launched on June 17 with an increased scope to rehabilitate the whole area employing an integrated approach.

He said a topographic map had been produced and it would guide in laying out the required structure.Mr Khama said the technical and biological measures which would be implemented to reduce erosion and rehabilitate the sites will include but not limited to fencing off strongly degraded areas, reducing the speed of run-off water by stone rows and grass strips parallel to the contour lines.

Mr Khama also said other measures to reduce erosion are shaping of gully and danga rims and diverting storm water around buildings.

Boteti North MP, Mr Slumber Tsogwane had asked the minister about interventions in place to rehabilitate the environment around Mosu which has deteriorated drastically over time due to erosion. ENDS
