Madi Majwana preaches financial literacy

Financial literacy remains an important concept for Barclays Bank of Botswana, hence the launch of Madi Majwana radio drama.
Barclays Bank of Botswana in partnership with the company at Maitisong launched the fourth season of their radio drama, Madi Majwana in Gaborone recently.
Speaking at the launch of the radio drama, chief operating officer, Keabetswe Pheko said the initiative demonstrates a marriage between financial literacy and theatre, which to some may seem unorthodox, but has prove to be fruitful.
“Madi Majwana journey throughout the years reflects financial stories theatrical performance and Maitisong recently introduced the drama in Kalanga and Sesarwa,” Pheko stated.
Pheko further explained that the addition of Kalanga and Sesarwa meant that they could give greater reach and exposure to a wider part of our nation and thus incorporate additional cultures.
“The drama has taken financial literacy to communities across Botswana and provided a safe environment for the public to discuss serious issues about money” Pheko elaborated.
Barclays Bank of Botswana managing director, Reinette van der Merwe stated, “Madi Majwana has provided us at Barclays Bank of Botswana with an innovative platform to discuss issues of money and its impact in our daily lives, continued conversations on money management as a nation contributes to a more positive economic outlook for us all”.
According to a media release form Barclays Bank Botswana, Madi Majwana has created employment and imparted skills and opportunities for over 200 young Batswana.
Moreover, Madi Majwana actors have been trained as debt counselors through the Ready to Work Initiative by Barclays Bank of Botswana.
The series will air weekly on Gabz FM, YArona FM, Duma FM and RB2. ENDS
