Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Mr Moiseraele Goya has thanked Naledi Senior Secondary School for donating teaching equipment and learning materials worth P26 000 to learners with special education needs at Ithuteng Primary School.
Speaking at the handover ceremony recently, Mr Goya said the donation was consistent with the country’s national aspirations of creating a compassionate, just and caring nation, which proved that Botswana would be a 100 per cent inclusive society in future.
He explained that learning for learners with special education needs remained a challenge and it was the ministry’s goal to achieve increased access.
He added that to expand education opportunities for such learners, government continued to step up efforts to develop appropriate infrastructure and human resources.
“To achieve this end, special education units are being established and equipped to cater for the learners with disabilities, who were previously disadvantaged. Much more pleasing is the fact that even the community, private sector and individuals are joining hands with government because they see the necessity to provide access to quality education for these special learners,” he noted.
He further added that they did so because of the common understanding that education was too important to be left in the hands of government alone, proving that education could only be delivered better through collective efforts.
Naledi Senior Secondary School form five students underwent a boot-camp from January 14 to 26 managed by Botswana Defence Force, which was held under the theme; No Matter How Crowded the Sky May Be With Stars, I Will Always Find Myself Among Them.
Boot camp coordinator, Ms Viginiah Kgakatsi explained that one of the objectives of the boot camp was to promote the spirit of patriotism and volunteerism to enable learners to contribute to the development of communities and the country at large.
The boot campers donated a TV set, radio, computer as well as teaching and learning materials. ENDS
