03 Apr 2018

In an effort to spice up the annual Mascom Derby Fashion Show, this year, Mascom brought two world-acclaimed Botswana models, Kaone Kario and Emmanuel Kayenda to interact with Maun models and share best practices.

Kario is currently based in Johannesburg while Kayenda stays in Cape Town.

The show, which is held every year prior to the popular, Mascom Derby provides an opportunity for upcoming designers to showcase their works.

Speaking during the event held at the New Maun Cresta Hotel, Mascom chief communication manager, Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego said this year, they wanted to do something different; hence the show featured the two models, who are doing well in the industry.

She said the show, which was in its third year, had proved to be a success showcasing talent in the northern part of the country.

The show, she said aimed to expose and highlight talent in Maun and surrounding areas as well as to market designers.

She said  it started from humble beginnings with support from Fashion Without Borders.

Lebotse-Sebego said it was Mascom’s intention to look for other activities to augment the Mascom Derby adding that they wanted to see the event growing big on a yearly basis.

The show, which was held under the theme, 'Wild Wild Rodeo' featured nine designers with amazing talents.

Lebotse-Sebego explained that the theme was inspired by the cowboys of Maun who, normally walk around in their white brimmed hats, snakeskin boots and denims.

“The Wild Wild Rodeo also beckons Batswana to Maun to experience a true Botswana themed Rodeo,” she added.

Some of the designers appreciated efforts made by Mascom to expose their talent, saying that had made a huge difference as the public got to know what they could offer.

They believed that the show would open markets for their products and urged Mascom to continue offering great support to the industry. ENDS
