27 Mar 2018
Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Security says Botswana Public Employees Union (BOPEU) has not received any money directly through the National Petroleum Fund (NPF), amounting to P100 million or any amount. Answering a question in Parliament on Monday, Advocate Sadique Kebonang however said the fund manager invested an amount of P53 250 as of February 24, 2016 at Babereki Investment, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of BOPEU. Advocate Kebonang added that the role and mandate of the fund manager was to invest the money, using his discretion, in different entities in order to grow returns for government and that it has been done successfully and had not contradicted applicable investment guidelines. He also noted that no other trade union or federation had received any money from the NPF directly or indirectly through the NPF fund managers. MP for Selebi Phikwe West, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse had asked the minister to confirm if BOPEU had received any money directly or indirectly through the NPF managers amounting to P100 million or any amount. He also asked the minister if any trade union or federation had received any money from the NPF, directly or indirectly from the NPF fund managers.
