Minister Butale encourages employees to stay fit

The Assistant Minister of Investment Trade and Industry Mr Biggie Butale says wellness is not only about the physical wellbeing of employees but also includes occupational, environmental, financial, spiritual and intellectual wellbeing of employees.Officiating at the Water Utilities Corporation Masunga management centre wellness day on March 23, Mr Butale said that the technological advancement and socio economic changes had led to changes in consumer behavior and lifestyles.
This, he said caused an increase in the prevalence of lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, stroke and cancer.
He commended the corporation for having a health and wellness strategy in place intended to address risk factors that may arise from improper working conditions, lifestyle habits and behaviors of employees.
The minister highlighted that the theme ‘employee wellness a foundation to productivity’ was fit because there was no way one could expect great productivity without a healthy workforce.
“This wellness day creates a platform that will make you a health wise workforce empowered with knowledge on health issues to enable you to better manage and cope with dynamic demands of health employees.”
He thanked the WUC management for their commitment to employees health which he said contributed positively to the statistics of a healthier society.
Mr Butale urged employees to go back to eating traditional instead of processed food which might cause some of the lifestyle diseases.WUC Masunga general manager, Mr Abegnigo Mooka said as a corporation they believed in the fitness of employees hence wellness days across the country.
He encouraged officers to continue exercising and staying fit instead of doing so only on wellness days.
He said such days helped employees to unwind and have fun while engaging in fitness activities.
The wellness committee chairperson Ms Precious Chiseni reiterated that officers should include wellness into their daily lives instead of exercising only on wellness days.She said wellness should go hand in hand with social, spiritual and financial health in order for one’s life to stay in balance.
She commended all employees who participated on the day and further thanked those joining them from different clusters in Tutume, Sowa town, Tsamaya, Gweta and Sebina. ENDS
