Mister Gaborone Finalist undertakes project

26 Mar 2018

Thirty one year old Kanye-born Jomo Kgaolo has set the bar high for his fellow counterparts in the upcoming Mister Gaborone pageant by becoming the first finalist to execute his project through a donation of groceries and toiletry to a less fortunate elderly couple residing in Old Naledi, Gaborone.

The pageant requires that all finalists undertake a community project that will help better the lives of other Batswana.

It was in this regard that Kgaolo identified and selected one of the under-privilegedindividuals and bought food for them to help sustain their livelihood.

Speaking in an interview, Kgaolo explained that the project would not become a once-off event and hopes to continue to help improve the standards of living for people who are not fortunate enough to do so, on their own.

“I would like to continue with this project even beyond the Mister Gaborone pageant and hopefully build a house for this couple because their living condition is not appealing.

Therefore, I call on to anyone or any organization to come on board and help out with whatever they can to help in uplifting the lives of Batswana,” he said.

Founder and creative director of the pageant, Oratile Phofhedi said Mister Gaborone is a male pageant mandated to empower Batswana as well as raise awareness on social issues such as gender based violence, safe male circumcision and unemployment.

He said that they have partnered with organizations such as Men’s Health, Men and Boys for Gender Equality and the Ministry of Health and Wellness to help send a message to the nation.

“Further, we have engaged with Botswana Prison Services where we intend to visit prisoners and donate food and toiletries to them on 7 April.

The main objective is to let them know that the nation still cares for them and their well-being,” Phofhedi said.

The second installment of Mister Gaborone will be held on June 16 at Cresta Lodge in Gaborone.

This year, the pageant has three offers for the top three; they will represent Botswana at the Mr Universal Ambassador, Mr Africa International and Mr Heritage.

Tickets for the pageant sell for P250 silver, P400 Gold which is inclusive of complimentary drinks and light snack and P650 for Kings and Queens (VIP) tickets which include full buffet, bottle of wine and a prominent seat.

Phofhedi promises a night of glitz and glamour with a live band of Contrabandits, Young Prince, Kitso of My Star fame and many more entertainers. ENDS
