Serowe prepares red carpet for President Khama

Tomorrow, March 27 will see the curtain of the 20 years illustrious political career of President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama come down slowly, but surely when he receives a rousing welcome accorded a military general who has never lost a single soldier at war.
President Khama, who is Kgosikgolo of Bangwato by birth lent to politics following an illustrious career with Botswana Police and Botswana Defence Force, where he rose to the top rank of a commander, has confirmed that his meeting at Serowe main kgotla will be a welcome ceremony for him.
“I hope speakers there will keep that at the back of their minds,” said President Khama referring to speakers at Serowe main kgotla tomorrow.
This confirmation followed a statement by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi at Thabala kgotla that President Khama would not be bidding farewell, but would be welcomed to his throne to assume his birth right.
The minister said that she expected President Khama to be welcomed and ushered into his throne like a hero.
At a kgotla meeting where President Khama received gifts ranging from cash amounting to P51 563, 26 cattle and 20 goats among a plethora of gifts, he thanked everyone who spoke well of him and his presidency.
President Khama reminded Batswana that the country was a best democracy in Africa, hence the prevailing peace.
Consequently, President Khama called on Batswana to continue and proudly live in peace despite some people stoking instability.
He also said the much praised and fancied President Housing Appeal would change name to National Housing Appeal at the elapse of his tenure.
The move, he said, would humble those who had accused him of using the programme to garner political points.
“Ba tlaa ipona gore ba tlaa reng jaanong,” President Khama concluded. ENDS
