Ministry to decentralise processes
25 Mar 2018
Ministry of Basic Education is continuing to decentralise its processes to regional operations and schools, Basic education minister, Dr Unity Dow, has said.
Responding to a question in Parliament from Mahalapye West MP, Mr Joseph Molefhe, Minister Dow said plans for this decentralisation were reflected in the Organisation and Methods Review of 2006, ‘which has seen the setting up of 10 Regions of Operation’.
Subsequently, from April 1, she said her ministry would decentralise the recruitment of temporary teachers, recruitment of new Permanent and Pensionable teachers and processing of transfers, promotions, resignations for D4 and D3 band officers.
“In addition, regional operations will be empowered through the disbursement of funds for the maintenance of secondary schools and the procurement of text books,” she said.
‘As processes are moved to the regions, staff is also redeployed.
The movement of schools maintenance for example will imply the decentralisation of our Department of Technical Services to regions to improve supervision and efficiency,’ he said.
Mr Molefhe wanted to know what plans were in place to decentralise Ministry of Basic Education processes and services and how this would affect staffing at headquarters.ENDS
