21 Mar 2018
Francistown school of dance hosted its first annual Ghetto stars open champions over the weekend.
Speaking to BOPA, director of the school, Tebogo Gaseitsiwe explained that one of the reasons they had hosted the competition was to bring the dance to the north.
She also explained that a lot of dance competitions were mostly held in Gaborone and they wanted to introduce dance competitions in the second city, thus giving dancers a chance to showcase their talents.
The competition hosted a lot of participants from different dance schools, which ranged from five years and above.
The participants competed in various dances such as jive, salsa and samba.
Earlier on welcoming stakeholders and participants, Gaseitsewe noted that dance sports helped build confidence in children as they competed in front of the masses.
She also said dance presented various goals that could not be fulfilled quickly, thus helping children to learn values of responsibility, ambition and commitment that could also be helpful to them in every day life situations.
She further added that dance helped children forge their characters as it mostly instilled discipline on them.
Ms Gaseitsewe also encouraged parents to enroll their children in dance schools as dancing helped them in character building.
She noted that next year the competition would include dancers from outside Botswana for the first time. Ends
