Hospital project to take off during NDP 11

21 Mar 2018

Parliament has been told that designs for the proposed Letlhakane Primary Hospital were planned for implementation during NDP 11.

Answering a question by MP for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe on Tuesday, Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele said the hospital would be upgraded to 70 beds and 65 staff houses.

Mr Makgalemele said the project was estimated at P66 million during NDP 11, explaining that the amount would cover pre-contract works including designs, Environmental Impact Assessment, topographical and geotechnical surveys.

He added that funds permitting, the project was proposed to commence during NDP 11 and would be completed during NDP 12.

MP Lelatisitswe had asked for an update on the proposed hospital looking at the design, project overview, estimated budget and the tentative date of construction.

Mr Makgalemele explained that the Ministry of Health and Wellness did not have establishment levels for individual clinics except for the District Health Management Teams (DHMT).

However, he indicated that the ministry was working on the staffing norms which would be used to guide allocation of personnel per clinic depending on the level of the clinic.

He said the clinics in Francistown, namely Masego, Botswelelo, Lapologang and Area W had staff levels currently standing at 20, 19, 17 and 63 respectively.

MP for Francistown South, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had wanted to know the establishment levels at the stated clinics as against their current staff levels. ENDS
