19 Mar 2018
Residents of Malotwane in Mochudi West constituency celebrated the reinstatement of Kgosi Robert Tshukudu, who started work last year.
Speaking during the celebration ceremony, former Member of Parliament for Kgatleng West, Mr Rakwadi Modipane said residents were blessed with a leader, who had already shown that he was ready to take the village forward.
He said Kgosi Tshukudu’s participation in community and national events proved that he had the interest of people at his heart as he lent a helping hand whenever there was a need. Mr Modipane said being a leader, a kgosi in this instance, needed someone, who was always there for the people but also needed support from his morafe.
He further said leadership was commitment, and for one to excel in leading people, they had to be committed to serve the people.
He encouraged Kgosi Tshukudu to carry out his duties without fear but work along with his morafe so that he could achieve his targets.
Mr Modipane added that bogosi played a critical role in Botswana and it continued to exist because of its critical importance in upholding culture and tradition among the ethnic groups in Botswana.
He said for bogosi to continue being constitutional, it was because government had seen the importance of the role bogosi played in the society. When addressing his residents, Kgosi Tshukudu said he was a kgosi in 1985 at 27-years-old but got a scholarship to study law at the University of Botswana. He pledged to work with his morafe and lead them so that their village could get the necessary developments.
Kgosi Tshukudu thanked the residents for organising a celebration on his behalf adding that this showed that they hold him in high esteem. The partenal uncle to Kgosi Tshukudu, Pastor Moratiwa Tshukudu said he believed that kgosi had a dream for the village and therefore encouraged him to unify residents in order to achieve great things for the community. He advised him to be strong and courageous as King David advised King Solomon before he took over the throne of Israel.
In his remarks deputy paramount chief of Bakgatla, Kgosi Bana Sekai said he was happy to be celebrating with Bakgatla in Malotwane for their kgosi, who was taking over from Kgosi Ofetotse Ditlhokwe, who had served the village for a long time. He pleaded with Kgosi Tshukudu to know the responsibilities that came with being kgosi and respect bogosi.
He also encouraged Kgosi Tshukudu to marry adding that a wife played an important role in the life of a man. ENDS
