14 Mar 2018

Kgatleng Regional Education celebrated excellence by awarding hard workers for demonstrating commitment to contributing towards achieving the goal for an educated and informed nation.

Speaking at the event at Molefi Senior Secondary School on Tuesday, Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) chief executive officer Mr Thapelo Tsheole applauded different stakeholders for the ceremony as it motivated and encouraged others to strive for excellence in all that they did.

He said the initiative supported one of 2036 pillars “human Social development” which highlightedthe need for the country to be a society that provided opportunities for all and celebrated those who were striving to do well.

Mr Tsheole said schools were faced with many challenges such as high teacher- learner ratio, shortage of classrooms and textbooks which contribute to poor performance by schools around the country.

He alluded peer pressure as one of the major challenges faced by learners in schools as most of them copy others for fame or fear of being beaten which leads to failure, teenage pregnancies and dropouts.

Furthermore he urged stakeholders to rise above the challenges by using dedication and perseverance, together with ambition and focus principles to conquer their dreams.

He said knowing what one wants to become and focusing on it is what exactly most learners need to stay focused and go in the right direction.

He congratulated award recipients on their achievements and contribution in different facets of their school life whether in the classroom or in sports ground or any other area they have shown great work ethic.

Tsheole encouraged all those who did not receive awards to keep working hard and take advantage of the opportunities made available to them to make something great in their lives.

He said that BSE was committed to working with the ministry to drive the school curriculum towards more stock material.

Mr Tsheole commended the Ministry of Basic Education (MOBE) school heads, staff members and members of the community for a job well done in promoting education and rewarding excellence.

Director of Kgatleng Regional Education Mr Kereng Koko said the objectives of the excellence awards were to recognise individuals who were doing ‘extraordinarily’ well on the provision of basic education in Kgatleng.

The director encouraged those who were receiving awards to keep on working hard and those who did not receive them to realise that hard work paid

In his welcome remarks Kgosi Bana Sekai said it was important for parents and teachers to work together to improve academic performance.

He took the opportunity to ask education stakeholders to work together to address ill mannerism among students especially after school. Ends
