Botswana to host Giant Club summit

13 Mar 2018

Kasane will from March 14-16, be hosting the second Giant Club summit following the inaugural summit in Kenya in 2016.

According to information from Space for Giants communications director, Mr Mike Pflanz the giants club is an initiative of space for giants whose founding members are the presidents of Botswana, Gabon, Kenya and Uganda.

The summit which is a high level African-led event is expected to unite the political will and  financial muscle to achieve its goal of protecting half of Africa’s elephants and their landscapes by 2020.

Still at the summit,  it is expected that the African leaders and delegates will back the one million signature petition demanding the EU to end its ivory trade and from Kasane the petition will go to Brussels.

The summit will also be an opportunity to celebrate anti-poaching progress and will give Botswana an opportunity to share her story on how she combines her largest national herd of elephants in Africa with a very low poaching rate and peaceful co-existence between people and the wildlife.

The summit is expected to be officially opened tomorrow. ENDS
