Coordinator of Queen Esther, Vehae Tjiriange said all should create a safe, healthy and encouraging environment for the girl child.
Speaking at a ‘Donate A Book_Save A Brain’ project launch by Lead Girl Club held in Maun, Tjiriange said government and communities should come together to make education a priority as well as to identify and break social barriers that keep the girl child and boy child from attending school.
Tjiriange said communities benefited from a more educated workforce and an increased women participation in the formal economy through education, which leads to greater economic growth.
She further said not only was educating women and girl child essential to achieve higher levels of economic growth and development, but also it was the right thing to do for humanity. “Societies prosper when women and girls are educated since they help in improving their households out of poverty,” she said.
Queen Esther Teen Pageant second princess, Lead Girl Club member and also a student of Maitlamo Junior School, Adele Maphosa said the life and leadership skills training she went through inspired her to be an ‘agent of change’ in her school and community.
Maphosa said she was motivated to start the ‘donate-a-book campaign’ due to the passion she had for reading and believed that young people should had access to study materials since reading improved a person’s way of thinking.
Also, she said there was shortage of books and other study materials in the school hence the need for ‘donate-a-book’ campaign.
She pleaded with Batswana to assist her in making her dream possible by donating books to make a difference in young people’s studies.
She said donations could be made to at any nearest junior schools in Maun where donation boxes would be placed. Queen Esther is a girl empowerment non-governmental organisation aimed to address community needs of a girl child through life and leadership skills training and mentorship. Ends
