We never touched National Petroleum Fund money-BDP
08 Mar 2018
Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has reacted to reports allegedly made by a lawyer and/or his witness at the ongoing court case that involves transactions for the National Petroleum Fund (NPF) to the effect that the party received sums of money from the NPF.
A press release from the party says, “whilst the party does not ordinarily comment on a matter that is still before court, the allegations made against the party are far reaching and in the interest of the party, its supporters and the nation at large, we would like to set the record straight.
The party wishes to once again put it on record that we have not received any money nor solicited any funds from the NPF.”
The release further states that if such evidence exists, those with it should bring it forward lest the allegations are misconstrued as factual. It says BDP as a responsible party fully abides by the laws of Botswana and the principles of good governance, thus the party remains open to any enquiry that may assist in this matter while observing due processes in accordance with the laws of the Republic and procedure of the court of law.
