Parliament was told that there were employees who sustained injuries and were treated in the mine hospital when both Tati Nickel and BCL mines closed.

Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security, Advocate Sadique Kebonang said all employees of Tati Nickel and BCL mines who were receiving medical attention at the date of liquidation were handed over to the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

He noted that the liquidator prepared their files for handover to the ministry containing details of their medical condition, adding that the liquidator continued to provide support and assistance with the handover process where employees encountered problems in accessing government healthcare facilities.

Advocate Kebonang further stated that the liquidator also assisted employees who had been covered by the BCL insurance policies at the time of their injuries to access private medical facilities for specialised assistance.

Francistown South Member of Parliament, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had asked the minister if he was aware that when Tati Nickel and BCL mines closed, there were employees who sustained injuries in the mines who were treated in the mine hospital.

He also wanted to know what assistance was extended to them after the closure.

Meanwhile, in response to another question from the MP for Ramotswa, Mr Samuel Rantuana who had wanted to know progress made on the installation of a sub-station at Seoposengwe to boost Ramotswa electricity supply, the minister said the installation had been budgeted for under the current 2018/2019 financial year.

Advocate Kebonang said the tender for contractors to provide engineering, procurement and commissioning had been floated and closed.

He said the tender evaluation and adjudication was in progress and that the award of the tender was expected in April/May this year.

Minister Kebonang said “the project anticipated period is 24 months from commencement date.” Ends
