True to the African adage that “it takes a village to raise a child,” Holy Ghost House International Church in Kanye has organised a series of events geared towards curbing the unruly behaviour that has become rampant among young people.

A motorcade on March 2 kick-started the weekend long campaign which also included various sporting activities and a beauty pagent dubbed “Miss Godly Change.”

Pastor Tshepo Gaoforwe, who is the brainchild of the idea themed: Pulling the youth from the street to the house of God, said in an interview that as the body of Christ, the church should be in the forefront in the fight against untoward behaviour that often shutters the dreams of many.

“It is my belief that the church should be true agents of change and become part and parcel of government concerted efforts in the fight against notorious youth groups tsa bo Matsetsenkane and drug proliferation and abuse,” he said.

Pastor Gaoforwe is steadfast that using all available platforms to take young people away from untoward activities and teaching them Godliness remained the only solution to deliver future posterity from waywardness.

“We have invited all individual and youth teams from Kanye to come and be part of these sporting activities. We want to lay bare perceptions by some who think the church does not offer entertainment that such notions are furthest from the truth,” he stated.

Unlike other hang outs frequented by young people, Pastor Gaoforwe said the church remained the only place where safety was guaranteed all the time.

He further said the church had embraced the idea so much that it would now be hosted annually.

Football, netball and athletics formed part of the sporting activities that pitted young people against each other at Montshiwa grounds in Kanye.

Some of the village teams that participated in the weekend long sporting activities included ABC Football club, Everlasting and Shinning Stars netball teams.

Victors’ Place, Assemblies of God and the hosts, Holy Ghost House International sporting teams, formed part of the teams that took part in the campaign. ENDS
