WUC shows compassion

05 Mar 2018

Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security Mr Patrick Ralotsia says a milestone is achieved each time shelter is provided for the less fortunate people in the community.

During a ground breaking event to mark construction of a two-bed roomed house for Ms Boitumelo Molosankwe at Mmakadikatsana ward in Ntlhatlhe, the minister who is also Member of Parliament for Kanye North applauded Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) for being compassionate.

He said the gesture by WUC to build a house for the less privileged person should be emulated by other organisations in Botswana.

He urged all entities involved in the construction of the house to show dedication to the programme for it to achieve its intended objectives.

Mr Ralotsia noted that by contributing towards poverty alleviation through provision of decent housing for needy people, the company is also making positive impact on social security.

“Through this vision, Botswana is strongly projecting its identity through various actions that express nationhood and patriotic sentiments,” he reiterated.

He appealed to the corporation to keep the good spirit saying they should not feel sorry to assist people despite water shortage in the country which residents are not happy about.

He encouraged Ms Molosankwe to do backyard gardening where she can plough vegetables, keep chickens and also do sewing to uplift her live.

The acting general manager of Water Utilities Corporation Lobatse Management Centre, Mr Amogelang Molefe said the beneficiary was selected by the Moshupa Sub-district council through Social and Community Development Unit.

Mr Molefe expressed hope that the house will restore the dignity of the family adding that they were expecting to build it within two months at the cost of P40 000, through volunteerism by staff members.

He said the house would go a long way in providing security and dignity to the person.

Giving vote of thanks, ward councillor Mr John Taolo noted that the President’s Housing Appeal was assisting in provision of shelter for the needy. ENDS
