Magope water reticulation project not part of World Bank loan

Magope water reticulation project was not included in the World Bank loan as it did not meet the criteria for selection which targeted wider cluster benefit.
This was said by the Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services Mr Itumeleng Moipisi in Parliament on February 28.
Mr Moipisi stated that the design that was presented to South East District Council during NDP 9 was still available, adding that the information was bankable and would be used for full reticulation in future, funds permitting.
The assistant minister was responding to a question from MP for Ramotswa, Mr Samuel Rantuana, who had asked the minister whether Magope water reticulation project was not included when requesting the loan for water infrastructure from World Bank.
Responding to another question from MP Rantuana, the assistant minister said Magope standpipes were serviced on a regular basis so that they become fully operational to meet the demands of the population.
However, Mr Moipisi explained that those standpipes remained vulnerable to vandalism by the public hence leading to irregular water supplies. The standpipes were last serviced and reprogrammed in November 2017.
“In an effort to ensure constant supply of potable water to the community in Magope, Water Utilities Corporation always undertakes browsing during breakdown times,” he explained.
Ramotswa legislator had asked the minister why standpipes at Magope were “never fully operational to meet the demands of the population there.” ENDS
