Boteti gets P8m for primary schools

28 Feb 2018

Chairperson of Boteti Sub-council, Mr Molemi Galeragwe has informed the sub-council that the sub-district had been allocated P8million for 2018 maintenaince of primary school facilities.

Mr Galeragwe said this during the sub-council session recently, stating that there were a number of school facilities that required some maintenance within the sub-district, but due to shortage of funds, maintenance of the facilities would remain a challenge.

Council, he said, would continue to make use of available funds, although inadequate to prioritise areas of critical concern for maintenance.

Mr Galeragwe said a project memorandum had been prepared and priority was given to maintenance of Mokane Primary School at P1.7 million, Khwee Primary School at  P1.704 million,  Mopipi Primary School at P2.750 million as well as maintenance of Kedia RADs hostel at P1.846 million.

The sub-district, he said, had also been allocated over P3 million for Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) Phase three to construct one improved LA2 house for teachers for both Kedia and Mopipi Primary schools as well as one by two classroom blocks for Mokane Primary School.

He highlighted that Boteti was faced with acute shortage of classrooms and staff houses, especially in densely populated schools such as Mokane and Seaseole primary schools.

Therefore the sub-district leadership, he said, would continue lobbying for more funds to address the schools’ needs.

Furthermore, Mr Galeragwe said the sub-district had been allocated funds to construct 16 destitute houses at various locations and 30 RADP houses.

He noted that with regards to RADP houses, 25 were already complete and in the defects and liability period, while the remaining five were above 90 per cent physical progress.

Destitute housing, he said, was a bit behind as only four houses were above 90 per cent physical progress and three ranged from 50 to 89 per cent, while the remaining nine ranged from 11 to 49 per cent.

Contractors, he said, had been engaged to expedite completion of projects and the authorities had confidence that all houses would be complete before end of the financial year.
