KAA to engage contractors for waste collection
27 Feb 2018
Kanye Administrative Authority (KAA) Sub-district councillors have been informed that the environmental health department will engage in community mobilisation by addressing kgotla meetings in the sub-district on the engagement of small scale and medium scale contractors for waste collection.
The authority’s chairperson, Mr Tlhomamo Dibeela told councillors in a week long sub council meeting that the kgotla meetings would be in preparation for the financial year 2018/19.
Mr Dibeela said so far eight villages were outsourcing waste collection except for Diabo and Dipotsana.
He said the two areas were serviced through the council skip truck.
The environmental health division, bye law and Botswana Police Service are engaged on the enforcement of waste management.
The chairperson stated that the team started operations in January 2018 and plan to complete by end of March 2018.
He said the purpose of the operation was to check compliance on waste management within the community, to do spot checks in areas where indiscriminate dumping of waste was taking place and unauthorized burning of waste by households.
“So far the team has observed that burning of waste at household level is being done at a high rate as well as indiscriminate dumping of waste along road sides and in the outskirts of Kanye,’’ he said.ENDS
