BNOC empowers sport administrators

27 Feb 2018

In their effort to equip and empower sport administrators, the Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) continues to organise courses that will help them run sport smoothly to enable them to be more accountable.

On Friday sports administrators graduated from certificate in sports administration course, where they were taught amongst others managing time, promotion and sponsorship, financial management and budgeting, governance of sport and key roles in sport organisations.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony BNOC senior vice president, Tshepo Sitale said one of his organisation’s strategic area of delivery was to increase capacity in coaches, sport administrators and medical personnel.

He said this was motivated by the fact that they found it prudent to close the gap. “We can’t have an elite athlete who is not managed by an elite administrator, coach and medical personnel,” he said.

Elite athletes, he said, needed an environment that was ripe, and correct to guide them, adding that the course and other programmes they offered was to better all other areas that would make a perfect athlete.

Furthermore, Sitale said the more they get educated and learn more about other areas, it would enable them to unearth more talent.

“Some of the talent we have in the country is average, but with good administrators and good coaching, they can actually become better, but I think you realised that currently we are relying on the sheer talent we have,” he said.

He said he was of the view that after the course, the sport administrators had the gist and enlightened and expectations were that they would do things differently to take sport in the country to greater heights.

Sitale encouraged the graduates to share the knowledge they have acquired with other administrators as sharing information would help their different codes to do things in a professional manner.

Course director, Moses Moruisi said the purpose of the course was to equip administrators from different federations with the necessary skills so that they could execute their duties properly. ENDs
