Unavailability of land hampers allocation

25 Feb 2018

Parliament has learnt that Tawana Land Board took long to allocate land due to unavailability of readily available land.

According to the Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi, land holders were generally unwilling to relinquish their land to the land board for village expansions, citing insufficient compensation offered.

Mr Moipisi who was answering a question from Maun East MP, Mr Kostantinos Markus recently said the problem was compounded by funding constraints. The assistant minister said Tawana Land Board was currently processing 13 detailed layout plans where land owners had been compensated in Gudigwa, Beetsha, Mokgacha, Ngarange, Kaputura, Tsodilo, Nxaunxau, Kaure, Bothatogo, Bodibeng, Phuduhudu, Maun and Sexaxa. He said once approved, they would be surveyed and plots allocated.

Mr Markus had asked why Tawana Land Board took long to allocate land and when the problem would be resolved. Ends
