25 Feb 2018

Former Vice President Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe has implored civil servants to do their best in rendering service to the nation.

He said they should execute their obligation efficiently and effectively. He said this when giving a key note address during the Selebi Phikwe Town Council Excellence Awards held under the theme ‘Quality Service Delivery to the Nation-United and Proud’.

Dr Kedikilwe said civil servants must provide quality service to the nation and take the country to another level into the future. He said poor work ethic which had been a challenge in the civil service in the  country needed to be improved.

He said there should be teamwork, proper coordination of work and communication in order to enhance service delivery.

He also emphasised the importance of good and strong leadership. He added that good leaders should device good ways to achieve the objectives and goals of the organisation to realise the nation’s aspirations of a united and prosperous nation.

He went on to mention that the reason why Botswana gained independence was for Batswana to determine their own destiny as a nation or country. This meant that Batswana and civil servants in particular had to take the responsibility of leading in building the nation by providing quality service to improve the standard of living or quality of life of fellow citizens.

“This is why we have the District Development Plan, National Development Plan, Vision 2016 and Vision 2036. All these plans are meant to guide and drive us in the delivery of services to build this nation,” he said.

He commended those that did well to receive the awards adding that the move should encourage other employees to do their best in service delivery and win awards.

For his part, mayor of Selebi Phikwe Mr Molosiwa Molosiwa also reiterated the Former Vice President’s words noting that civil servants needed to exert more effort in providing quality service to the public.

The town clerk,  Mr Godimo Garegope noted that the awards were meant to commend and recognise excelling civil servants. He said the awards were meant to encourage them to continue doing a good job in serving the nation. Ends
