Remote communities get more ranches - Moipisi
21 Feb 2018
Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services continues to allocate ranches to remote area communities in the country.
This was said by the assistant minister in the ministry, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi when responding to a question from MP for Jwaneng/Mabutsane, Mr Shawn Ntlhaile in Parliament on February 20.
Mr Moipisi said in the Mabutsane Sub- district, Kanaku community was allocated a farm in 2014.
He added that the communal grazing areas at Mahotshwane corridor and Thankane expansion area had been reserved for exclusive use by the Mahotshwane and Thankane communities.
He noted that his ministry was currently doing a feasibility study at SO2 and once completed, the remote area community around the area would be considered for possible allocation of ranches in the area.
That notwithstanding, he said the Livestock Management and Infrastructure Development Programme (LIMID) could also be utilised through different land uses such as abattoirs, small stock and arable fields among others.
MP Ntlhaile had asked the minister to state what steps the ministry was taking to fast-track the allocation of ranches to remote area communities which had been pending to provide land access to LIMID and Poverty Eradication Programme beneficiaries in the Mabutsane Sub -district. ENDS
