Shakawe records highest ARV patients

Shakawe clinic, under the Okavango Sub -district (DHMT) had the highest number of people on ARV programme as at October to December 2017.
This was revealed during the Okavango Sub -district Development Committee meeting on Tuesday.
The number of clients on treatment during that period at the said health facility stood at 2 658, followed by Gumare primary hospital with 2 136.
Other clinics are Etsha 6 which had 1020 clients, Xakao; 788, Seronga;545, Nokaneng; 415, Sepopa; 370, Beetsha; 330 and Qangwa with 65 patients.
Dr Kulanje of the Okavango Sub -district Health Management Team, said the number of people living with HIV was high in the area.
He said a total of 8 327 clients during that period were on treatment, while another 136 were initiated on treatment this quarter.
Dr Kulanje also said a total number of children under the age of 12 on treatment in the Okavango Sub DHMT was 144.
On a related issue, Dr Kulanje said the uptake of the prevention of Mother to Child Transmission Of HIV/AIDS (PMTCT) programme was 100 per cent in the area, adding that HIV testing rate was 100 per cent.
He said all women who delivered in that quarter were tested for HIV, while all who tested positive were initiated on appropriate treatment.
As for teenage pregnancy, Dr Kulanje said Etsha 6 had the highest number, exceeding Shakawe and Gumare.
He however said none of the teenagers were found to be HIV positive.
The dofficial said there were activities undertaken to combat teenage pregnancy, such as house to house campaign by ACHAP to sensitise the public on the topic. Ends
