President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama has described SHOMA (Shoshong and Mahalapye) BDP region as one of the pillars of strength for the party. President Khama said opposition parties will never thrive in that region.

Speaking at his farewell event organised by the region in Mahalapye on Tuesday, President Khama however said despite the region being one of the foundation of the party, democrats must always be cautious and work hard as they prepared for the 2019 general elections.

He said for the party to retain the three parliamentary seats in the region being that of Shoshong, Mahalapye East and West, BDP members must be united and work hard. President Khama said by retaining the three constituencies, SHOMA region will be ensuring that the party continued to be in power beyond 2019.

He further described Vice President Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi as a capable individual adding that he will only be able to prove his mettle through their votes as they have done with him.
“If you want Botswana to continue developing entrust your vote with the BDP in 2019, so work hard for the party,” he said.

Meanwhile, party chairperson and Vice President, Mr Masisi said he was happy to have witnessed that the BDP was still intact in SHOMA region.
“I am happy that the party still reigns supreme in the area,” he said.

Mr Masisi said opposition politicians envied the BDP for its positive deeds and would do anything to ridicule it. He said the BDP under stewardship of President Khama had managed to do away with factions that had been tormenting the party in the past.

“I will be here again in the near future, asking for your votes. I will pray hard for it,” he said. Mr Masisi further appealed to members of the party to continue educating the people on the mandate of the BDP. He said the BDP leadership worked in harmony.

Member of the central committee, who is also Minister of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism Mr Tshekedi Khama said BDP members in the region worked as a team. “No one will divide us and we thank you for working with us and driving the party to where it is today,” he added.

MP Botlogile Tshireletso of Mahalapye East said BDP members in SHOMA region would fully support Mr Masisi as President the same way they did with President Khama. Ends
