No overdue salaries for employees

20 Feb 2018

When the Ministry of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development assumed the responsibility of running brigades from the former Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD), no employees were owed salaries.

Responding to a parliamentary question on Monday, Minister Tshenolo Mabeo noted however that 14 employees were owed terminal benefits.

He said 13 of the 14 were paid their benefits in November 2017, while the remaining one would be paid this month.

Mr Mabeo further explained that the other allowance owed to brigades’ employees was the care-taking allowances in which the ministry received 125 claims. He said to date 99 employees had been paid while 22 claims had been submitted to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development for payment by March.

He said the remaining four were still to provide more information for his ministry to consider making payments.

MP Polson Majaga of Nata-Gweta had asked the minister when former employees of brigades would be paid their overdue salaries and allowances, which were not finalised before being transferred to the Ministry of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development. Ends
