BGCSE results out

Botswana Examination Council (BEC) has released the 2017 Botswana Examination Certificate for Secondary Education (BGCSE) examination results.
Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, BEC executive secretary, Professor Brian Mokopakgosi said a total of 37 251 candidates wrote the 2017 examination showing an increase of 5.04 per cent in candidature compared to the 2016 cohort of 35 465 candidates.
Prof Mokopakgosi stated that there were 15 590 which is 41.85 per cent of male candidates and 58.15 per cent of 21 661 female candidates sitting for the 2017 BGCSE examination.
He explained that St Joseph’s College continued to top all the centres around the country even though the performance had gone down slightly, Nata Senior School being the school which has improved slightly and Ledumang being the most improved school.
He said 2017 BGCSE examination was administered to 25 802 (69.27 per cent) of candidates from government and government-aided schools compared to 25 016 (70.5 per cent) in 2017, while in private candidates category included 604 (1.62 per cent) back to school candidates 1 794 (4.82 per cent) candidates from private schools and 9 655 (25.92 per cent) including BOU candidates.
Prof Mokopakgosi stated that this year 24.05 per cent candidates from government and government-aided schools were awarded Grade C or better in five syllabi compared to 25.46 per cent in 2016, this showed a slight decline of 1.41 per cent, indicating that the two cohorts were of more or less the same quality.
He said candidates could collect their statement of results at designated locations across the country from February 20 to March 3. Ends
