With February being the month of love and giving, the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has decided to give the community of Ledumadumane Valentine’s present in the form of a new office block for the kgotla.    

Mr Mpho Balopi, the secretary general of the BDP, said the party found it important to join the bandwagon and show love to residents of Kgwanyape kgotla in Ledumadumane East.

Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony of the new kgotla office block this week, Mr Balopi said the new office block would consist of two offices for the kgosi, social worker and a mini board room for Village Development Committee (VDC) meetings, rest rooms and a kitchenette.

He said the gift was also in line with the values of Batswana of giving and uplifting other people’s lives, especially those in need. He added that it was also a sign of being compassionate, just and caring as espoused in Vision 2016.

Mr Balopi said as they mark the beginning of construction, they reaffirmed the ideals for which the building would stand, adding that the new structure would enhance community development, benefit the community and represent the values of the ward, branch and BDP.

He noted that in 1962 when the BDP was formed, it pre-ambled its constitution to show that it was formed by voluntary desire and patriotism.

He said volunteering was not to take any powers from the kgosi, but to give him courage to perform his duties diligently and to give him the dignity he deserved.

Mogoditshane/Thamaga Sub-council chairperson, Cllr Dux Mafhoko said the gift came at the right time as his council did not have funds for the construction of the offices.He said government alone could not afford to assist everybody. Ends
