Health important to oneself -Dr Ovberdjo

11 Feb 2018

It is important to be reminded of how important health is to oneself.

Addressing Ngwato Landboard and its 15 sub-landboards in Serowe on recently, World Health Organisation Botswana representative, Dr Martins Ovberedjo said he realised that the organisers were concerned about staff health, adding that any organisation’s health was defined not just by the absence of disease or illness, but included mental, social, emotional, financial and physical wellness.

He said land board employees worked a lot in the open environment and therefore were aware that the environment could affect their health and that they could affect the health of the environment.

Dr Ovberedjo said to clear bushes, employees sometimes use chemicals and Anti-Microbials to ensure total termination of diseases in the environment.

He said such a practice though taken lightly, sometimes had some serious long term effects in causing Anti-Microbial resistance.

“The World Health Assembly ministers of health committed that by May 2017 member states should have developed Anti -Microbial Resistance and Botswana was one of those that had already developed the National Action Plan, awaiting signing off by senior government executive, an achievement for Botswana, a leader in the African continent,” Dr Ovberedjo stated.

Another speaker, senior land board secretary based in Bobonong, Mr Mpho Keareng said wellness was their pride and encouraged all to exercise daily as doing so improved productivity at work and at home. Ends
