Poverty eradication programme in Mahalapye has a backlog of beneficiaries who were trained from 2012 and have not yet received their material.

Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Eric Molale said a total of 892 beneficiaries were trained from 2014 to 2016, out of which 328 had been packaged, while the remaining 564 beneficiaries would be packaged in the next financial year.

Answering a Parliamentary question on February 7, Minister Molale said beneficiaries would be retrained on relevant technical skills as well as business management and entrepreneurial skills.

Furthermore, he said his ministry had increased capacity at district level to ensure that once beneficiaries were accessed they get trained and packaged immediately.

“The delivery of programmes is now done through the district commissioner’s office, which my ministry has sub-warranted funds since 2016,” he said.

Mahalapye West Member of Parliament, Mr Joseph Molefe had asked the minister if he was aware of the poverty eradication programme backlog of beneficiaries in Mahalapye, who were trained from 2012 and had not received their material.

Mr Molefe also wanted to know the number of beneficiaries trained from 2014 to 2016 and were yet to receive their material in Mahalapye, and also when the approved beneficiaries would be packaged and receive their material.

He also asked about the kind of re-skilling or re-training that they would go through as some knowledge received on training had deteriorated, and what measures were in place to avoid delay in the implementation and delivery of the programme in his constituency. ENDS
