Kang MVA office strategically located

04 Feb 2018

Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Kenneth Matambo says the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA) serves the public through its head office in Gaborone and six additional satellite offices throughout the country which are located in areas that are prone to motor vehicle accident.

Mr Matambo said satellite offices were located in Francistown, Maun, Kang, Palapye, Selebi Phikwe and Rail Park Mall in Gaborone.

He was responding to a question from Kgosi Justice Moseki of Ghanzi North region.

Mr Matambo told the house that the Kang office which was established in 2008 was intended to provide service to the public and claimants in Kgalagadi and Ghanzi regions, adding that the office was strategically located along the Trans-Kalahari Highway to ease access by the public and the claimants in that catchment area.

He noted that before opening the Kang office, the public and claimants were served by the Maun and Gaborone offices, adding that it compromised service delivery because the offices were out of reach for many people hence they decided to build one in Kang.

Mr Matambo said among all the offices, the Kang office has recorded the lowest statistics since opening, thus showing that there were fewer road accidents in Kgalagadi and Ghanzi regions as compared to other regions.

He said on average the Kang office received an average of six claims per month including claims from Ghanzi region.

He said it does not justify opening another office in Ghanzi in the short to medium term.

Kgosi Moseki had asked the minister if he would consider establishing an MVA office in Ghanzi. ENDS
