Health ministry decentralises maintenance of facilities

04 Feb 2018

Minister of Health and Wellness, Ms Dorcas Makgato has told Ntlo ya Dikgosi that her ministry is aware of the condition of Satau Health Post houses and that her ministry has recently decentralised maintenance of facilities.

Responding to questions at Ntlo ya Dikgosi tabled by Kgosi Peter Chika III of Chobe region, Ms Makgato said a company that would be responsible for maintenance of facilities in Chobe District was currently auditing and scoping maintenance works for all health facilities, adding that maintenance works would be prioritised and carried out accordingly.

Kgosi Chika asked the minister if she was aware that Satau Health Post houses were in bad condition, infested by bat, with windows having no gauzes and that houses were not fenced thus animals freely roamed the area resulting in compromise of health and security of employees.

On another issue relating to the Satau Health Post, Ms Makgato said her ministry was aware of shortage of accommodation at the health post as there were three houses with a staff establishment of seven employees.

She said the ministry has prioritised accommodation of nurses in the houses as they worked on call bases, citing that the ministry made an effort to address the housing challenge by building an extra house in 2015, and that there were no plans to build houses in NDP 11, but that Satau Health Post would be considered in the future pending availability of funds.

Kgosi Chika had asked the minister if she was aware that there was shortage of accommodation at Satau Health Post, and that there were three staff houses but that the staff establishment of the Health Post was at eight, and when she intends to address the situation. ENDS
