Junior Certificate results out

Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) has released the 2017 Junior Certificate Examination (JCE) results.

According to a press release from BEC, a total of 40 896 candidates wrote the 2017 examination showing a slight decrease in candidature compared to the 2016 cohort of 41 464.

“Overall performance indicates that 33.80 per cent candidates have been awarded grade C or better compared to 32.54 per cent in 2016, which represents an increase of 1.26 per cent.

This year two candidates obtained merit. 376 out of 40 896 (0.92 per cent) candidates have been awarded grade A compared to 271 out of 41 464 (0.65 per cent) in 2016, which translates to an increase in the percentage of candidates awarded grade A (0.27 per cent),” says the press release.

It further indicates that this year grade C slightly went down by 0.13 per cent with 9 568 (23.40 per cent) candidates compared to 9 757 (23.53 per cent) in 2016.

“The proportion of candidates at grade D decreased by 0.17 per cent from 33.38 per cent in 2016 to 33.21 per cent in 2017.”

At grade E there has been a decrease of 0.78 per cent from 15.02 per cent in 2016 to 14.24 per cent in 2017.

Furthermore, there is a decrease of 0.39 per cent in candidates who have failed to obtain an overall qualification, 6 851 (16.75 per cent) compared to 7 105 (17.14 per cent) in 2016.

“These are the candidates who did not meet the minimum requirement for a grade E and in the report are recorded under grade U,” continues the press release.

Distribution of results to centres will be sent through normal post, distribution to regional offices will see regional offices access the results through Malepa system and individual candidates will be able to access the results through the BEC website (www.bec.co.bw) as well as SMS.

The release further says  guidelines on how to access results are available on the BEC Facebook page (Botswana Examinations Council) and BEC Twitter account (@Bots_Exams).

Distribution to the Ministry of Basic Education will be accessed through book print and CDs delivered to ministry headquarters. ENDS
