Vice President Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi has urged Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) to enhance water provision efficiency across the country.

Addressing a kgotla meeting in Lotlhakane West recently, Mr Masisi who is also Member of Parliament for Moshupa/Manyana, said WUC had been accused countrywide of failing to provide adequate potable water.

Further, he said the corporation had been criticised for never consulting with residents about their water supply situation.

Some Lotlhakane West residents had complained that since WUC assumed water supply, water shortage in their village had become the order of the day.

The corporation was again confronted with complaints of ‘severe’ scarcity of water in schools and at the Kgotla.

The Vice President said countrywide, WUC was being accused of failing to provide communities with adequate potable water.

He said water was a necessity for life and admitted that water provision across the constituency was not satisfactory.

Mr Masisi said that some developments were delayed by shortage of water.

He appealed to WUC officers to always alert residents about the situation.

WUC officials indicated that due to unreliable rainfall most of boreholes had dried up and they used two bowsers to provide the village with water.

They said water situation in Southern District was expected to improve after completion of the North-South Carrier water pipeline projects.

In other issues, the Vice President informed residents about bills passed in the last session of Parliament, including the Matimela Act and Competition and Consumer competition bill.

He said the review of the Matimela Act came after realising that the ministry incurred losses through stray livestock which were kept under its care for prolonged periods.

He stated that Matimela cattle would now be controlled by district councils.

He said the road from Moshupa to Lotlhakane West was on the plan to be tarmacked soon. ENDS
