Deputy Paroumount Chief of Bakgatla Kgosi Bana Sekai has hailed the Mangana regiment for having restored the dignity of the Bakgatla chieftaincy reiterating that , they displayed the sort of courage Kgosi kgafela would have expected of them.

Kgosi Sekai said this when addressing the tribe for the first time on Saturday since retaining the position of deputy paramount chief.

Kgosi Sekai also thanked the tribe for steadfastly holding on to their culture and beliefs ensuring that their interests as a morafe were respected especially where their chieftaincy was concerned.

He said Bakgatla held on to the truth during the time when the tribal leadership had some misunderstaning with governmnet.

Nonetheless they persevered and finally government heard their plea and restored peace in Kgatleng after careful consideration pertaining to the issues that were before the courts of law .

He said the conflicts were so intense that it affected families as well as independent institutions such as churches.

He thanked those who stood with him during those trying times.

Kgosi Sekai has further reiterated the importance of every Mokgatla to know and embrace their culture lest they fall prey to divisions that will permanently divide their tribe.

He said according to the Setswana culture, “kgosi e tsalwa e le nngwefela,” denoting that a chief is born, not chosen.

He however, stated that he is ready to work with every one and urged all to put the past behind and unite as a tribe.

Bakgatla showed appreciation towards government’s decision to reconsider restoring Bakgatla’s dignity and peace.  

Others requested Kgosi’s Sekai to hasten to deal with social ills bedeviling their village in order to restore their values as a tribe. ENDS
