15 Jan 2018

Member of Parliament for Francistown South, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi has applauded President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama for stepping down peacefully from the presidential seat.Mr Mmolotsi said this during a Kgotla meeting recently in Francistown, where he explained that the country’s Constitution allowed a president to serve for two five year terms.

He said it was commendable as it showed that there was democracy in Botswana.

This, he said, was in contrast some African countries where leaders do not want to step down willingly.

A resident of Somerset East, Mr Goitse Majumane also commended the President for peacefully stepping down at the end of his tenure in March, this year.

He also applauded President Khama for the many initiatives that had benefited Batswana. Mr Majumane hailed the Presidential Housing Appeal, indicating that it had given many citizens habitable homes.

However, Mr Majumane expressed concern over the growing numbers of unemployed people, and was hopeful that the next President would address the challenge.

Another resident, Ms Ester Joseph complained about Water Utilities Corporation for over-charging customers as they based their bills on estimation and for taking long to attend to customers queries. ENDS
