Heat wave affects dam levels
10 Jan 2018
Following the recently excessive heat wave experienced around the country, some dams have lost lot of water through evaporation.
This was as a resultant of dams’ surface water being exposed to air and direct sunlight which ultimately increased evaporation.
This lost water is referred to as consumed, because it is removed from the system.
In some cases, this water consumption can be quite substantial due to excessive hot weather.
Dams and their associated water reservoirs provide many services, including water storage, flow regulation, in stream and off stream uses, flood protection, amongst others.
Meanwhile, Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) advises the public to use water parsimoniously in order to save the water that is still left in the dams.
Further, WUC urges the community to pay outstanding water bills to avoid disconnection and to allow water infrastructural development to be done.
Below are the Dam levels as at Tuesday compared to the same time last year. ENDS
