Officer appreciates stakeholders

19 Dec 2017

The outgoing Maun Prison officer in charge, Mr Tomeletso Mogogoma has commended Maun churches, business community and individuals who have been giving a helping hand to Maun Prisons annually.

Mr Mogogoma was speaking at a Maun Prisons stakeholder’s appreciation ceremony recently.

He noted that the stakeholders had been supportive to prisoners, especially through donation of toiletries and ceremonial activities such as independence and Christmas parties.
Mr Mogogoma observed that government was faced with challenges of funds, therefore was unable to provide toiletries to prisoners as it happened this year.

He however noted that the donations from various stakeholders had met the needs of prisoners at Maun Prison, noting that it was worth appreciating the efforts from the stakeholders by awarding them certificates.

Mr Mogogoma noted that the stakeholders were a proof of people who understood that inmates had been deprived of their rights except for the right to live, therefore deserved some basic necessities to make prison life bearable.

He noted that some churches such as the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Morongwa Lamb Followers and the Village Church frequented Maun Prison to conduct outreach services. Mr Mogogoma also encouraged Maun Prison inmates to maintain good behaviour, cleanliness and desist from eloping.

He noted that good behaviour proven by inmates would attract more good Samaritans and positive reception to the outside world when they completed their terms.

The incoming Maun Prison officer in charge, Mr Blackie Matibini also appreciated the cooperation between the prison’s officers and the Maun community.
Mr Matibini encouraged that the good spirit continued.

Maun Trading Company donated toiletries to Maun prisoners and some gifts to prison staff at the same event.
Organisations that were awarded certificates included Thuso Rehabilitation Centre, Maun Trading, Village Church, SDA, St John and some individuals. Ends
