Plans to upgrade Donga Clinic underway

Parliament has been informed that plans to upgrade Donga Clinic to a fully-fledged 24-hour facility by the end of February 2018 are underway.
Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele said renovation, rehabilitation works, procurement and installation of equipment would be completed by the second week of February next year.
MP for Francistown East, Mr Buti Billy had asked the minister to update Parliament on the upgrading of the Donga Clinic to a fully-fledged 24-hour facility as a way of addressing congestion at the Area W and Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital.
Mr Makgalemele said he was aware that nurse specialists with masters degrees were recognised and dully registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Botswana.
He said currently, the Nursing and Midwifery Council had registered 64 nurse specialists in the country.
Mr Makgalemele said the ministry was currently undergoing organisational restructuring through which a comprehensive job analysis for cadres with specialty like nurses and some allied health officers would be done accordingly.
Mr Billy had asked if the minister was aware that nurse specialists with master’s degrees were recognised and registered as nurse specialists by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Botswana, and that they were less than 50 the whole country inclusive of those working at the University of Botswana, Institute of Health Sciences, government and private hospitals.
He also wanted to know when the ministry intended to remunerate them appropriately. ENDS
